Advice on what to do? I cant pay my credit card bill until I get my second pay check…?

June 7, 2010 | Pay Capital One Credit Card Bill

Okay so moved to a new city at the beginning of May for college and I just found a job the week before last on Thursday. I have rent due for next month which is $450. The first paycheck I get next Monday is $775 and after taxes it will be $600. My credit card bill is overdue for May I was not able to pay them anything. I was trying to save up money as much as I could for the move, but a lot of it was spent on going back and forth from where I lived to where I live now trying to find a job. I owe $159 for my credit card bill and I need to pay it by the 12th of June, but I dont get paid again until the 22nd of June. Is there anyway I can ask them if I can wait until my second paycheck to pay it back? $150 is enough for food and gas money (since I live 30 minutes away from my job and work at least 6 days a week) until I get paid on the 22nd of June. I cant afford to pay Capital One.

I totally understand your situation. You should call you credit card customer service number and tell them you situation. They may reduce your minimum payment. As long as you make the minimum payment your credit report will be good. Sometimes they will even lower it to $0,00 Remember they are human just like you and me… So till the 22nd it’s not that long… If the first person you speak with cant help you ask to speak to a supervisor. Good LUCK!!!

  2. call them and tell them, they’d rather know they were getting the money sometime than scaring you with red letters

  3. im sure they will let you pay late as long as you contact them about it , probly will be an extra charge though ,for 159 dollars i wouldnt bother having a credit card , cut the thing up with a pair of scissors

  4. If you can still take money out of an ATM with a credit card take enough money out to make the minimum payments for the next two months. Make one payment to keep your record clear and hold on to the rest of the money until the next month’s bill is due. Then make the 2nd payment. If you can not budget yourself at your new job you are screwed! When the big bucks are finally coming in you can make extra payments to get your balance down and paid off!

If you have more than one credit card there is no reason to ever be late on a payment! You may be digging yourself into a huge debt but your credit won’t be hurt! Pray you win the lottery or do the adult thing and live within your budget! You can make extra payments to get ahead.

    Good luck.

  5. "Most" creditors will allow you to slide on payments. The better the record you have the better the chances you have of them giving you an extended grace period. Sometimes without penalty.Call them immediately and see what they will do in the situation.

Remember though,if you make a promise to pay in "full" you need to hold that promise. Because if you re-nig on that promise, they may not be as nice the next time.

  6. You can try and ask them. Calling them and asking is never a bad thing. But you might be out of luck.
Also, if the entire bill is only $159 then sending in a partial payment may be a better way to go. Usually if the bill is this low, then a payment of about a quarter of that is sufficient to hold the bill over one more month. (Only Capital One can tell you the exact minimum payment.)
If one payment is $159 and the actual bill is much higher, then you may be in trouble. But do call them, they may let you defer one payment. Good luck.

  7. Long story short is that you moved without having enough cash on hand to tide you over. Try a loan from the Bank of Mom and Dad.

  9. Call the creditor and ask for a payment arrangement. If you have been good about making payments in the past they may work with you. Don’t bother with the reason you gave in your question. Your lack of planning is not their problem. I’ve heard them all……just be up front. Say something like…."Due to some unforeseen circumstances I find myself short of funds. Since I have a good history with you, I would like to know if I could have an extension and pay my bill in full by the 22nd ." The first person you speak to may or may not have the authority to do this. Just keep escalating. Remain calm and professional. And when you get permission make sure you pay when promised!

  10. an earlier answer said to use an ATM to get a cash advance on a credit card BAD BAD BAD STUPID IDEA>

That will put you out on having even MORE stuff to pay off and at a VERY high interest rate.

Cut back where you can or get a second job. Don’t borrow more because that will only make things worse.
